Orange Scones with Fresh Cranberries and White Chocolate

Beautifully textured, orange scented scones filled with tart fresh cranberries and white chocolate.

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup pastry flour
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup butter cut into small pieces and very cold
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • Zest from 2 clementines*
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup fresh cranberries chopped
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips
  • For the glaze:
  • 1 cup icing sugar
  • 1-2 Tbsp fresh orange juice


  • In a large bowl mix together the flours, baking powder, sugar and salt.
  • Cut in the small pieces of cold butter until well combined but maintaining some pea sized pieces of butter.
  • Mix together the buttermilk, clementine zest and vanilla and pour into the flour mixture.
  • Mix until a rough dough forms.
  • Fold in the cranberries and white chocolate chips.
  • Turn out onto a counter and lightly knead/pat into a 1” thick disk.
  • Cut into 8 wedges and place on a baking sheet.
  • Bake at 425 for 15-20 minutes.
  • Make the glaze by whisking together the icing sugar and orange juice.
  • Allow the scones to cool slightly and then drizzle on the glaze.


*I used clementines, but you can also use the zest from one orange.
