Ingredients

For the seasoning mix:

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons corn flour*
  • 1  1/2 Tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp chicken bouillon powder**
  • 1 tsp dried minced onion
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic salt
1/2 tsp seasoning salt
1/2 tsp smoked paprika
1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp sugar
1/4 tsp cayenne

For cooking***:

  • 1 pound chicken ground or chopped
  • 1 Tbsp tomato paste or ketchup****
  • 3/4 cup water

Instructions

Make the seasoning mix:

  • Combine the corn flour, chili powder, chicken bouillon powder, minced onion, onion powder, garlic powder, garlic salt, seasoning salt, smoked paprika, cumin, sugar and cayenne in a bowl.
  • Whisk well.

To make seasoned taco chicken:

  • Heat some oil in a skillet.
  • Add in the chicken and brown.
  • When almost cooked, stir in the seasoning mix.
  • Add in the tomato paste or ketchup (if using, see notes) and the water. Allow to simmer and thicken.

Notes

*can sub corn starch if you don’t have corn flour
**can sub beef bouillon and make beef tacos
***cooking this way produces a thicker, slightly saucy finished product like standard “taco meat”. If you just want the meat seasoned and dry, omit the water.
****adding tomato paste or ketchup is optional, but gives the dish some zip
