This Tahini Miso Dressing is the miracle dressing you didn’t know you needed in your life but you really, really do. I make this balanced and incredibly yummy dressing all the time – I guarantee there’s a jar in my fridge right now – and I haven’t yet figured out what it’s not good on.

Yes, it’s a salad dressing, duh, but it’s so good on so many other things. I dip veggies into it, I pour it all over roasted vegetables, I add it into wraps and burritos, it’s good on avocado toast and sautéed green beans and rice bowls, yam fries and pretzel chips, grilled fish, chicken or tofu, it’s amazing on a bowl of rice or ramen or udon noodles, it’s just… like I said… it’s kind of a miracle.

Oh and hey, you know what? It takes about 5 minutes to whip up in the blender and it keeps perfectly well in the fridge.

Creamy tahini and funky miso are a match made in foodie heaven. Adding in tasty shallot and garlic boost the flavour and soy sauce brings in a salty richness. Apple cider vinegar and lemon juice brighten everything up and a touch of sweet honey is the perfect complement to all the other ingredients.

There’s no need to pre chop anything if you don’t want to. I simply throw all the ingredients into the blender and let it work its magic until the mixture is completely blended and magically smooth. Creamy and dreamy with no mayo or cream.

The biggest note to take away? Taste and adjust… this truly is the key to all sauces and dressings. Make it how you like it. Want it a little sweeter? Add in some more honey. Savoury is your thing? Reduce the honey and add a touch more soy sauce. You can even make a spicy Tahini Miso Dressing by adding in a big pinch of red pepper flakes or a big squirt of sriracha.

Ingredients
  

  • 1/4 cup tahini
  • 2 tbsp white miso
  • 2 Tbsp shallot finely minced
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp water
  • 2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 1-2 Tbsp honey*
  • Pinch salt

Instructions
 

  • Add the tahini, miso, shallot, garlic, soy sauce, water, vinegar, lemon juice, honey and salt to a blender and blend until well combined and completely smooth.

Notes

*Adjust the honey according to your tastes. I prefer it slightly sweeter.

Tahini Miso Dressing Recipe ingredients, tips, substitutions:

Tahini – I’ve seen different kinds of tahini in my days but I generall use the runny, drippy kind that I find in the international section of my grocery store, like this one.

Miso – I use white miso as it’s the most mild. There are several different varieties, so use what you like best.

Honey – I use raw, runny honey. Adjust the amount to your tastes.

Soy Sauce – regular soy sauce. You can sub in low sodium soy sauce if you prefer.

Tahini Miso Dressing Recipe Variations:

Spicy Version – add in a big pinch of red pepper flakes or cayenne, or a big squirt of sriracha.

Maple Version – substitute maple syrup for the honey.

Black Pepper Version – add 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper. Stir the pepper in after the dressing is blended.

Herby Version – A handful of soft herbs is a fantastic variation for this dressing. I’m partial to the addition of parsley, but basil, cilantro, chives, even mint are all good options.

I don’t know what to tell you here friends, but it feels like insulting your intelligence to offer you step-by-step instructions on how to add a bunch of ingredients to a blender and turn it on.

What I will say is this: pick your blender. I’ve made this in a high-powered blender… a smaller, personal blender… a small food processor… a large food processor… I’ve used an immersion blender and made it directly in the mason jar I use to store the dressing in… and yes, I have used this recipe to get in my daily arm workout by manually whisking it for, like, ever, until it is completely smooth.
